ECM International Youth Performance
Competition & Masterclass


All instruments are accepted and the competition is based on best musicianship
Winners will have their video debuted on YouTube & our website, and will take part in a Masterclass by Guest Artists

All participants will join the masterclass for the selected winning performances. This will be a great learning opportunity for everyone, from some of our experts in the field. Feedback will be provided from all judges to all participants. Certificates will also be mailed out to the winners.

Application process:

  • Application fee must be paid (x1 piece/performance per application)

  • All applicants will upload their video on to YouTube. Make sure that your video is set as Public or Unlisted (but not Private).

  • Youtube videos should have the full name of the student, title and composer of their chosen piece.

  • All applicants will email a link of their YouTube video and include the name, invoice# and email address used for payment

  • All emails must be sent to: music@eastchamber.com

  • Please DO NOT attach or send video files

  • Title of your email should be: Youth Competition [Student Name, Group Category]


Competition dates:

  • Registration opens: August 15, 2021

  • Registration deadline: November 15, 2021

  • Competition winner announcements: November 30, 2021

  • Masterclass (online via Zoom): Saturday December 11, 2021 at 11am Eastern Time (Toronto)

    • Includes pre-masterclass talk and student feedbacks, followed by guest artist live masterclass of selected winners


Rules:

  • Video must be clear and show the student performing the music

  • Chosen pieces can be in any genre or style and from any era (classical or modern classical music)

  • Durations of pieces may not reach beyond maximum length


What judges will consider:

  • Choice of repertoire

  • Technical skills

  • Overall interpretation

  • Musicality

  • Performed from memory (extra points)
